MYCOLD MALAYSIA

CERTIFIED DAM SAFETY INSPECTOR (CDSI)

The Certified Dam Safety Inspector (CDSI) Training Program is a specialized course aimed at enhancing the technical expertise of professionals in the field of dam safety. This program has been developed by Malaysian National Committee on Large Dams (MYCOLD), in collaboration with the Indonesian National Committee on Large Dams (INACOLD), the program provides participants with in-depth knowledge and practical experience in essential areas such as dam safety inspection, monitoring, and reporting.

The CDSI program focuses on equipping dam inspectors and engineers with the skills required to inspect, maintain and manage dams effectively. Through this program, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the key elements that constitute a robust dam safety management system, with the goal of ensuring that dams comply with the highest safety standards and regulatory requirements.

The training course is structured into two main phases: lecture-based learning and practical site assessments. The subjects component covers key topics, including dam design principles, potential failure mechanisms, safety monitoring methods, and emergency response planning. During the site assessment phase, participants are evaluated on their inspection skills as they conduct safety inspections under expert supervision, applying their knowledge in real-world scenarios.

The CDSI certification will be awarded to participants who successfully completed all phases of the training, pass the return examination, and demonstrate their technical proficiency in an interview session. This certification not only validates the individual’s competence in dam safety inspection but also ensures that the certified inspectors are well-prepared to manage the safety requirements of dams, thereby mitigating potential risks associated with dam failure.

This 2nd batch of the CDSI program will take place in November 2024, with site assessment planned at two major dams in Malaysia: Klang Gates Dam and Semenyih Dam. The program culminates in a final assessment, which includes both written and oral examinations.

By participating in this course, individuals from various backgrounds, including those from government bodies, private organizations, and other relevant sectors, will gain the knowledge and skills needed to effectively contribute to the safety of dam. This ensures the long-term sustainability and protection of communities.
